Evening & Weekend Receptionist
Wage Level: $10.00/ hr.
SHIFT: Part time/ on-call

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Family & Senior Services Supervisor, the Receptionist performs a variety of jobs.  These tasks include answering a five (5) line switchboard, monitoring building, taking messages, answering questions and doing a variety of other jobs.  This job requires excellent people skills and continual cooperation and interaction with the community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Building Supervision
• Responsible for overall supervision of Friendly House.
• Directs all participants to their designated areas.
• Ensure that the Cleanup Checklist is complete.
• Ensures everyone is out of the building by designated closing time.
• During events, check building, especially restrooms, lobby, kitchen and gym to make sure areas are clean, safe and properly supplied.

Receptionist Duties
• Records attendance for meetings and other activities.
• Answers telephones, transfers calls and puts calls into voice mail.
• Collects money and writes receipts.
• Answer questions regarding Friendly House services, programs, fees and all general inquiries.
• Responsible for light cleaning in reception and waiting room areas.

Communication
• Maintain timely written and verbal communication with participants, staff  and supervisor
• Document all incidents, accidents clearly to supervisor
• Communicate any concerns, problems and issues with supervisor

Safety
• During normal office hours, responsible to check ID’s of adults picking up children to ensure they are approved to pick up the child.
• Ensures the main office and front door are locked before leaving.
• Ensures that all lights are off, doors locked and alarm is set if last person to leave the building.
• Maintain safety procedures as outlined in policies of Friendly House and State of Iowa
• Be familiar with the Friendly House Disaster Preparedness Plan
• Participate in all safety drills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge
• Knowledge of Friendly House and other community services and programs
• Knowledge of Friendly House policies and procedures

Skills
• Communicate with others effectively
• Monitoring multiple groups, events and people in the building

Child Development Specialist
Wage Level: $13/ hr
SHIFT: Full time, 40 hrs./wk.

SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Youth Services Supervisor, the Child Development Specialist will serve as a lead staff person for a group of children ages 2- 5yrs who are part of the Friendly House Kid’s Corner Preschool Program, a licensed child care center which is part of Friendly House. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Program Curriculum
  • Using Creative Curriculum, a research based developmentally appropriate tool, prepare weekly lesson plans for age related classroom
  • Ensure materials include activities designed to foster physical, language, social, emotional and creative development of each child
  • Create a classroom environment that supports the curriculum goals and ensures that each child can reach maximum social and cognitive development 

Direct Supervision
  • Maintain clear visual contact and accurate count of all children assigned to class at all times
  • Engage with children one on one and a group as supervision is provided for all activities. 
  • Attend to the physical, emotional and educational needs of the children providing caring/nurturing interaction that is empathetic and demonstrates patience
  • Use approved child guidance and care giving techniques that support overall program objectives. 

Communication
  • Maintain timely written and verbal communication with child’s parents/ guardians with regards to the child
  • Maintain timely written and verbal communication with team members and supervisor
  • Document all incidents, accidents clearly to parents/ guardians, team members and supervisor
  • Document all special instructions that parents/ guardians may provide
  • Communicate need for supplies or teaching resources to Youth Services Supervisor in a timely manner

State and Friendly House Kids' Corner Guidelines
  • Understand and adhere to all policies as outlined in the Friendly House Personnel Policies handbook
  • Meet licensing guidelines daily of Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS), Quality Rating System (QRS) and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
  • Attend in-service training and staff meets as requested
  • Meet all requirements of being a Child Development Specialist including training in First Aid/CPR, Universal Precautions, Child Abuse Reporting and other training that meet the hours required per year. 

Safety
  • Ensure that children are in a safe environment at all times
  • Maintain safety procedures as outlined in policies of Friendly House and State of Iowa
  • Be familiar with the Friendly House Disaster Preparedness Plan
  • Participate in all safety drills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Prefer Associates degree in Education, Early Childhood Development, Human Services or related field and at least one year of experience in Early Childhood Education

Senior Services Program Assistant (Part-time)
Wage Level: $12.00/per hour
SHIFT: 14 hours per week
                                                                                   
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
Participant Transportation
  • Maintain senior van in a clean and safe manner. Report any mechanical or safety issues to the Support Services Supervisor.
  • Contact all seniors that are scheduled to be picked up by Friendly House daily.  If senior does not answer or contact is not made, inform supervisor. 
  • Maintain accurate logs of participant transportation usage, including mileage log in vehicle and submit to the Senior Services Supervisor at the end of the month. 
  • Insure participant safety upon entering and exiting vans.
  • Immediately notify Senior Services Supervisor of any issues that may affect participant ability to use scheduled transportation, (i.e. health, cognitive, or behavior issues).
 
Programming
  • Maintain confidentiality of all the participants.
  • Tally Milestones Café participant registrations on participant roster, and make orders for following day’s meal.
  • Assist with congregate meal service when needed.
  • Collect money from participants for congregate meal site and other program activities and submit to Senior Services Supervisor by the end of each day.
  • Assist the Senior Services Supervisor in designing and implementing monthly program activities, projects and outings. 
  • Receive approval from Supervisor for all unscheduled programming.
  • Communicate need for supplies or resources to Supervisor in a timely manner
  • Encourage seniors to participate as independently in the program as possible. Do not assist participants with transferring or lifting a senior.

  • Document all incidents, accidents clearly to supervisor
  • Communicate any concerns, problems and issues with supervisor
