Goal of Preschool Program:
Responding to the needs of young children and their families in this community, we provide an affordable early school experience that contributes to the child’s social development and school readiness.

Philosophy of Program:
We believe that every preschool-aged child should be able to access quality early learning experiences in a safe and accepting environment. We acknowledge that the child’s family is his or her first and most important teacher. We are dedicated to working with families to enhance the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and creative abilities of each child in order to prepare him or her for kindergarten and life. As a part-time program, we serve children who are not in day care as well as those who are brought to us by caregivers.

We believe that each child has valuable strengths that contribute to our program and individual interests that can be used to facilitate learning experiences. We consider these strengths and interests when making our weekly plans. Our curriculum is play-based and literacy-rich, using top-quality stories as a springboard for center activities and lessons throughout all domains, meeting each child at his or her own developmental level. Children learn through exploration and discovery in an environment that is structured to teach problem solving. In addition, they receive positive guidance and encouragement to nourish their enthusiasm for learning and give them confidence in their abilities.

We believe that children are members of the greater community and that Friendly House can expand on opportunities for community involvement by providing Family Interaction Times and services for people of all ages and circumstances.

Friendly House partners with the Davenport Community Schools and the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program for Four-Year-Old Children. Click here to learn more about the Statewide Program.
