Below is our annual appeal letter.
August 2021
Dear friends,
Sally and John (names changed) were struggling with remote learning. These two elementary school students were studying from home because their Davenport school had switched to a remote learning program in an effort to combat the coronavirus pandemic. But being detached from teachers and friends, and having their regular school routine turned upside down, created new issues. They began to struggle academically but felt too disconnected from their teachers to get the help they needed.
Both of these kids had been active in Friendly House’s afterschool program. When they learned that Friendly House had converted this service into an all-day program, they took it upon themselves to ask their parents to come back to Friendly House.
Their mom’s response? “I can’t imagine them going any other place.”
Why? Legacy and impact.
Both the students and their parents had experienced valuable service, care and encouragement during their time at Friendly House. They knew of Friendly House’s 125-year legacy of enriching lives and strengthening the community. In fact, they had experienced it firsthand.
Legacy and impact. When we think about our lives, and the fingerprint we want to leave on the world, these are two words that quickly jump to mind. We want to make a contribution to our community that will result in life change and transformation.
I invite you to join in the legacy and impact of Friendly House, a nonprofit organization here in the Quad Cities that has been serving children, families, and seniors since 1896. Whether it is daycare service, educational assistance, emergency family needs, food insecurity relief, senior activities or more, Friendly House has been there to help make a difference. By serving 10,000 people annually, hundreds of thousands of people have personally experienced the impact of this Quad Cities icon.
How can you join this legacy and impact? Please consider making a financial gift to Friendly House this year. Like many other organizations, 2020 was a challenging year for Friendly House too. Needs increased, services had to be changed, and various fundraising events and activities had to be canceled. Your gift can help recoup from the unexpected challenges of 2020 while helping provide brighter futures for the people we serve.
Besides Sally’s and John’s story, there are so many more stories of impact I could share with you about Friendly House caring for children, families, and seniors. Please make a gift to Friendly House this year to help provide hope for families in our community. Below you’ll find a few suggested giving levels. Your support can make a difference with every generation in a family- children through seniors- that Friendly House serves. Together we can help these families battle through viruses, storms, pandemics, or whatever else life throws at them.
Please help Friendly House by being a difference maker for the sake of our community. Thank you for anything you can do to help.
All the best to you and your family.
Sincerely,
Jim Farber
