Friendly House offers FREE tax preparation and online filing for low to moderate income taxpayers from United Way's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Qualifications include family household earnings less than $60,000 and valid social security numbers for all family members. It is recommended that married couples file jointly to get the maximum of benefits. If a married couple files jointly, both members need to be present at the appointment. If married couples choose to file separately, two separate appointments will need to be made. Iowa and Illinois taxpayers are eligible.
The focus will be on helping taxpayers benefit from the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which provides taxpayers an average tax return of $1,500. Friendly House, in cooperation with other participating Quad City agencies, hope to inform taxpayers of this credit, prepare their tax return, and file the return electronically for a speedy refund at no cost to the taxpayer. This service is provided through the VITA program, which is sponsored by the IRS.
You must call 563-355-4310 or 2-1-1 for an appointment.
United Way is always looking for volunteers to help with this program! Please contact United Way if you are interested in being a VITA volunteer.
